Sample sizes are the minimum covered by each audit. Where a larger sample or additional records are needed, we’ll scope and quote that before starting.

Every audit ends with a corrective actions report.

You get a clear account of the non-compliance issues we found, what to do about them, and an employer record-keeping fact sheet — so you know exactly what to fix first.

A Clear, Three-Step Audit

Straightforward to start, with minimal disruption to your pay cycle.

1

Scope

We confirm the right audit level, agree the employee sample and pay periods, and request access to the payroll and time records we need.

2

Review

Our payroll specialists test pay, super, PAYG withholding, STP and timekeeping records against the relevant award or agreement, the NES and ATO requirements.

3

Report

You receive a corrective actions report setting out what needs fixing. If we find underpayments, we can take you through a structured payroll remediation.

Why a Payroll Audit Matters

Payroll errors rarely announce themselves. Most start in the gaps between rostering, award interpretation and payroll software settings, then quietly repeat every pay run until an employee raises a concern or a regulator comes asking. A payroll audit tests a sample of real pay outcomes against your obligations, so you find issues while they are still small.

  • Underpayments can be a crime. Since 1 January 2025, intentionally underpaying wages or entitlements can be a criminal offence. Regular audits show you are taking genuine steps to pay people correctly. Read more on wage theft.
  • Super is now paid every payday. Since 1 July 2026, Payday Super requires Superannuation Guarantee to be paid with every pay run, so mistakes surface — and attract charges — much faster. Read more on Payday Super.
  • The ATO sees your payroll in near real time. Single Touch Payroll reports every pay event, so errors in classification, withholding or super are increasingly visible to regulators.
  • Software only does what it’s configured to do. Your payroll platform pays people correctly only when award rules, pay items and employee details are set up correctly — and it rarely tells you when they aren’t.

If the audit identifies underpayments, our team can help you remediate — recalculating what’s owed, correcting your settings and putting controls in place so it doesn’t happen again.
